I read a lot of good books in September, but none of the full-length novels quite made it to that all-important five-star mark to earn Book of the Month status from me. I did, however, read three novellas that I ended up rating five stars. This made the choice for my favorite a rather difficult one, but since one of the stories is already free, that narrowed it down to only two. I finally settled on the third novella in a trio of connected stories about three half-brothers. In it, our hero spends a wild night in Vegas and wakes up the next morning beside a naked showgirl he doesn’t remember. Not wanting to deal with the awkwardness, he sneaks out before she awakens, only to have her hunt him down in Mexico weeks later, saying that they’re married and she wants a quickie divorce. But when he finds out all this new information, he’s not about to give up so easily this time.
I absolutely loved Colton. He may have initially ditched Fayre, but he spent all those weeks feeling guilty about it, and was planning on going back to find her once he got a break from work. He also didn’t hesitate to step up to the plate when she came calling. He’s a complete sweetheart, and the way he pulls out all the stops to cherish Fayre in every way possible and treat her like a princess was swoon-worthy romance at it’s best. When she woke up to find Colton gone, Fayre thought she’d made yet another bad choice in men, so once she finds him and he starts sweet-talking her again, she a little hesitant to let him back in. But it doesn’t take long before she’s melting back into his arms and trusting that he truly is the real deal.
I thought this was an incredibly sweet and romantic novella. The reader will definitely have to buy into love-at-first-sight to appreciate this story, and while I admit that the insta-love trope often doesn't work for me, here I was enchanted. Colton is the ultimate Prince Charming, while Fayre resists a little at first, but then eats it up. Their emotional connection is great, and they also share incredible chemistry. That’s why I’m naming Lucy Monroe’s Colton as my September Book of the Month. If you enjoy contemporary romance with a super-cute fairy tale quality, a hero who’s equal parts sweet and seductive, and love scenes that are full of steamy goodness, then you should definitely give this book a try. They're not the marrying kind—more the Do NOT Take Home to Mom kind. But these three brothers are about to meet the tempting women who have what it takes to tame their inner bad boys...
