January was a stellar reading month for me. I read a total of six books and novellas, all but one of which rated five stars. The one that didn’t was still 4.5 stars. So that’s a near-perfect month’s reading. I’m not sure that’s ever happened to me before.
With this many wonderful books to choose from, one might think it would be difficult to pick just one to name as my Book of the Month, but in the end, it wasn’t too hard. Anyone who’s been following my blog with any regularity, probably knows that I’m now a huge fan of the series this book comes from. I’ve already named the first two book of the series previous Book of the Month winners, so it’s not too surprising that I would pick this final book of the trilogy as well. It took me on a tumultuous, emotional, roller-coaster ride, and I loved every minute of it. The only thing that could possibly make it any better is if I could flip a switch in my brain and forget the story, so I could read it all over again like it’s the first time.:-)
Christian has become one of the most unforgettable romance heroes I’ve ever read. He’s a brilliant, but emotionally broken businessman, who went from believing he didn’t have much to offer in the way of a genuine relationship to a blissfully happily married man. The way he focuses all his love, affection, desire, and passion on Anastasia alone makes for a heady romantic brew. Christian’s vulnerabilities still tug at my heartstrings, while his need for control continues to be a point of contention, but in the end, I was very impressed with how much he’d grown as a character. In every way, he’d become a become a better version of himself.
Despite now being immersed in Christian's world of opulent splendor, Ana has never stopped being the ordinary girl-next-door. For her, it’s never been about the money; it’s only about her love for Christian. She’s every bit as protective of her man as he is of her and has always exhibited infinite patience with his enigmatic and mercurial moods. It’s like she’s become the Christian whisperer.:-) Christian may have begun their love story with plans to tame Ana, but in fact, it was she who tamed him. She, too, has undergone a lot of growth throughout the story, finding more confidence in herself and coming to enjoy many of Christian’s kinks.
Christian and Ana’s relationship is a thing of rare beauty. By the time I reached the end of the book, I was more than convinced that they were going to have a long and happy future together, till death do they part. I also enjoyed all the little side romances in the background involving their family and friends. These were the icing on the cake. I don’t think I can begin to express exactly how much I love these books and how much of an impact they’ve had on me. I can’t wait to reread them all from Christian’s POV. That’s why I'm naming E. L. James’s Fifty Shades Freed as my January Book of the Month. If you enjoy heart-stopping love stories filled with sizzling hot erotic love scenes then you should definitely give this book a try.
