Between the busyness of the holiday season and the mad last-month dash to get my newest book ready for publication, I fell behind on my blogging. In order to catch up, that means that I’ll be bringing you two Book of the Month giveaways this month, one for November and one for December.
My favorite read for December was the eleventh book in the popular historical romance series, Maiden Lane. Again, if you’ve been following my blog, you’ll know just how much I love this series and the author. I’ve given away some of her books before. I just can’t seem to get enough of her writing and even had the privilege of meeting her in person and taking a wonderful writer’s workshop with her a few years ago. I feel like a broken record every time I review her new releases, because each one seems to entrance me as much as the others. This latest book features a relatively new hero, who was just introduced in the previous book, and a heroine who’s been around for most of the series in a supporting role. Their story is one filled with action, adventure, a touch of mystery, and some heart-stopping romance that didn’t fail to keep me engaged throughout.
Alf is a young woman who’s survived the mean streets of St. Giles by disguising herself as a boy. By day she’s a street urchin informant who’s the best purveyor of information in London; by night, she masquerades as the newest incarnation of the infamous vigilante known as the Ghost of St. Giles. Hugh is a duke and the illegitimate son of the King, who works as a spy for the Crown and is being sent to identify, infiltrate, and bring to justice the members of the Lords of Chaos, a group of aristocrats who engage in all sorts of illegal debauchery. When Hugh hires Alf to help him find the fabled membership list of the Lords of Chaos, she finds her two worlds beginning to collide, and when Hugh discovers her secret identities and arouses her passions, she must find a way to become the woman she was born to be rather than the boy she’s pretended to be all these years to survive.
I love Alf for her bravery and courage. She’s an unusual mixture of innocent girl, who’s never been with a man intimately, and worldly woman, who knows far more of the seedier side of life than gently bred young ladies her age would. I love Hugh for recognizing what a fierce and courageous young woman Alf is and for always treating her as his equal in spite of the vast differences in their social stations. Theirs was a wonderful story of true love at its finest, showcasing some of the nice, steamy encounters for which this author is famous and populated with lots of fun and intriguing characters in a unique setting. It was a thoroughly fun and enjoyable read. That’s why I'm naming Elizabeth Hoyt’s Duke of Pleasure as my December Book of the Month. If you enjoy sizzling historical romance filled with adventure and unusual characters then you should definitely give this book a try. Keep reading to learn how you can win a copy for your own library.
